Faces of Antartica
Dr.Belinda Grace Gardner :
Both resonate in Tom Nagy's photographic images of icebergs and Antarctic landscapes: the irrepressible, irrepressible energies of nature and the vulnerability of its rugged forms, which are at once minimalist and narrative, static and mobile, majestic and fragile. Nagy's photographs allow us to experience the image formation of this ephemeral nature and thus protect it from disappearing forever. In his portraits of icebergs, they become ephemeral sculptures, floating like works of art in the lonely stillness of Antarctic waters, only to eventually dissolve altogether. From the photographer's point of view, the Antarctic landscape encourages reflection on the cycle of life and a sense of one's own transience.
